I've always heard that people come into your life for a reason and a season. I believe that includes dogs too. In less than a year, we lost both of our dogs due to medical reasons. Our lab would have been nine, and our yorkie would have been ten. I had just lost my first yorkie of five years when we bought my Lola. She was already a year old and as spunky as can be. To give you an example, our first night with Lola, we had pizza for dinner. My husband (boyfriend at the time) got up and left his plate on the coffee table. Lola ran and grabbed his entire slice of pizza (bigger than her) and tried to chow down on it before he could grab it back from her. Their relationship was about like this for the rest of her life. Shortly after, my husband bought his fun-loving lab, Gus. He chased balls endlessly and sat on the couch like a human to watch TV.
They were our babies before babies. We raised them through the rest of our college years, moved to South Carolina with them, planned a wedding, traveled, moved back to Georgia with them (twice), and we finally had babies with them. Seeing Gus be a "big brother" was so fun. He was always so good with the boys. There wasn't a single person that met Gus and didn't instantly love him. Lola, on the other hand, was super jealous of our boys, but she knew better than to do anything about it. She let them pet her, but for the most part, kept her distance. She was a momma's girl at heart.
As a small tribute, here are two clips from videos in our Whole Health Kids playlist on my YouTube channel. Unfortunately, I had started the kids videos after Gus passed away, and I only had a quick video of Lola in one before she passed. Take care of your pets and love them hard because there's no telling how long they will be here.

In order to escape, I have currently been reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I know I'm way late on this trend, but there is such a thing called Mom Life. I've put reading on the the back burner ever since I've become a mom, and until last year I hadn't even attempted to pick up a book. However, during the lockdown of COVID, I started to read again, and it sparked a joy within me. I've made it a point to sit and read every single night for at least 10-15 minutes. It's not much, but it helps me escape and wind down in the evenings.
I started using the Book of the Month subscription last year as well. I'm awful at picking books, and this helps narrow down my choices to the best books available. You get to choose from five new books every month at a discounted rate, and if you don't like the options, you can always skip!
Here are some of the books I've purchased, read and loved so far:
The Star-Crossed Sisters of Tuscany by: Lori Nelson Spielman
The Guest List by: Lucy Foley
